PPT: Spirituality and Well-being in South African Youths

In case i bumped into you at your church some three years ago in Stellenbosch, making some funny jokes to cheer you up to fill out a survey for me, here are some slides that give a visual clue of what’s happening when you experience God as a relational partner. I had the opportunity of discussing the results from the research today at the Spirituality, Culture, and Wellbeing Conference at Exclesia College, Sydney.

While I am currently working on a book (Finding God Without Losing Yourself) that clearly communicates the research in a practical, easy-to-read style, I must also thank you for being part of the journey. Because of you I have made a tremendous progress as a researcher. Thank you for trusting me with your story. I promise to make your voice to be heard the loudest, and hoping that your experience will resonate with people who are interested to hear them and do something about it.

Prophet Isaiah once said it best, “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31).

Indeed having a relationship with God is a healthy way of achieving a sense of authenticity and staying true to who you are without conforming to the expectations of others. We find ourselves when we embrace God as our loving Caregiver. “In Him is life, and that life is the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:4-5). God is life in the gloominess of a dark past. His love for those who seek Him and draw closer to Him has no limits nor boundaries in time and space (cf. John 6:37; Proverbs 8:17; 1 John 4:16).

In summary, God’s Word is ever true even when tested scientifically. Prophet Isaiah’s poetic words beautifully summarises my research with South African youths three years ago. #GodIsReal
